Culture in Ghana Plays a major role in Ghana as it is an integral part of most social and even political activities in the country. The long history and rich tradition of the tribes and peoples of the different ethnic groups which constitute the ten(10) regions of the country make for an interesting cultural experince. Cultural activities are held all year round to commemorate different traditional beliefs and customs of the Ghanaian people. Some of these activities include carnivals and festivals; held to climax these events.
The Ghanaian ethnic societies are based on a chieftancy system, with cheifs serving as the traditional rulers and heads of tradtional courts. These cheifs are revered by their subjects, and in some tribes like the Ashanti for instance, all the cheifs pay homage and are subordinates to the King.
