"Okomfo Anokye's Sword"
You have no-doubt heard about the legend of King Arthur's sword. A similar tale exists here in Ghana, and it is present to this day for all to see. The tale is about the legend of "Okomfo Anokye's Sword." The sword is located at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. Buried neck-deep, it is said to have been placed in the earth by Okomfo Anokye, the cheif preist of "Prempeh I,"- the first king of the Asante Kingdom.
Legend has it that Okomfo Anokye proclaimed that the sword will never be removed, and it has remained that way despite many attempts to remove it.. Have any doubts? Why don't you come see for yourself.
"Bobiri Forest And Butterfly Sanctuary"
The Bobiri butterfly is located off the main Accra-Kumasi road. The sanctuary contains over 500 known species of butterflies. It is a one-stop for all nature lovers.
"Kumasi Cultural Center"
The Kumasi Cultural Center is home to most artisans and craft makers in Kumasi. The center provides you with an opportunity to watch these skilled professionals at work and you can also purchase original Ghanaian art masterpieces and other artefacts on display.
In addition, you also get the rare pleasure of having custom desings made just for you and even have your name inscribed on these masterpieces. Either way, the center offers you a once in a life-time experience of the rich Ghanaian tradition on display here.
The center also houses the Regional headquarters of the Ghana Tourist Board.
"Manhyia Palace Musuem"
Arguably the most important tourist site in Kumasi, the Manhyia (pronounced "Menshiya") Palace Musuem is located in the premises of the "Manhyia Palace." The palace is seat of power of the "Asantehene" (Asante King).
The Manhyia Palace Musuem houses ancient relics of the Asante Kingdom. Here, you can get all the information you may need about the history and way of life of the Ashanti people. The musuem curators are well read and are more than ready to assist you with any information you may require.
